We love seeing athletes thrive in Suffolk’s sports clubs and build careers from their passion. That is why from winter 2024, we are sponsoring Jasmin Taylor, Telemark Skiing Champion and Maddy Wormald, Ipswich Basketball Player.

Maddy Wormald

Maddy has swapped the sunny shores of South Australia in Australia’s NBL1 South League for Ipswich in the UK National Basketball League for the 2024/25 season. She joins the Ipswich Club who has been producing the most elite basketball players in the East of England for almost half a century, and is now based in Copleston Sports Centre.

enable is supporting her to play against the best teams in Britain, as the team look to defend their National League title from 2023/24. The Ipswich team has also been invited to compete in the Super League Basketball Trophy, and started off strong with a commanding win over the reigning EuroCup Winners, London Lions. The SLB is England’s professional league, in which Maddy and IBC plan to leave their mark on. Maddy was the second highest scorer in this game with 19 points, including the first 8 of the game. Missing three starters in their second game of the SLB trophy, they lost against Essex rebels and as a result they are now 1-1 in the SBL Trophy.

This weekend Ipswich will face Thames Valley at their home in London, and Anglia Ruskin the following week at home at Copleston. Home games are packed with fans and the atmosphere is electric, making it difficult for these teams to come and play in Ipswich’s home ground.

Basketball is a fast-paced, skillful sport that thrives on teamwork. The five players on the court must work together to not only score but also defend against the other team. This requires a high level of hard work, communication, athleticism and skill. It is a sport that is played worldwide, and is developing quickly in the UK.

Jasmin Taylor

Jasmin ‘Jaz’ Taylor began her ski journey on local dry slopes in Ipswich aged 11 years old. Through great perseverance, a few broken bones and swerving flagpoles “gates”, she has scooped more Telemark World Cup and World Championship medals than any other British skier.

Telemark Skiing combines a giant slalom, jump and skating section where penalties are given for incorrect technique and added to final time. It is a snowsport for the fast and the furious. But instead of a tank of fuel, they require their own physical endurance and agility to swerve gates over slippery snow. Sure, clipping on the perfect boots can make the journey smoother, but the obstacles, curves and the limits that the skiers face are not for the faint-hearted.

In Jasmin’s 2022 Telemark Parallel Sprint Final, she was captured on camera seamlessly steering around checkpoints and the 270° icey loom, calmly preserving her energy and bolting across the finish line for the win. Telemark, a sport named after its birthplace in Norway, has been modernised and reinvented since its origin with new technology and equipment. The art of this triathlon-esque event could be considered the ultimate test of any skier; to ski, jump and skate.

Plans for Winter 2024 and Beyond

Inbetween training, the skiing champion and top-scoring basketball player popped in to see us in September to update us on their exciting schedule for the year. Their visit inspired a new sport in enable.services head office: Follow the Athlete! We are plotting the journeys of both sports women as they set off on their tours. For the Telemark World Cup (and World Championship) tour, Jasmin will be hitting the slopes in nine resorts across Europe, starting in Pinzolo Italy, and Maddy is playing on dozens of basketball courts across England.

They both have a busy year ahead of them and we are thrilled to chart their progress! It’s also a full-circle moment to support Jasmin’s World Cup tour, as her first ski steps were just a stone’s throw from enable’s Martlesham home.

Our two new sponsorships are enable’s answer to UK national campaigns such as This Girl Can, who promote and encourage women to participate in sports, and Active Suffolk, an organisation dedicated to increasing the number of people taking part in sport and physical activity.

We believe that Maddy and Jasmin are shining examples of where sports can begin and where they can take you. Jasmin recently gave us an exclusive insight into her range of endurance activities that she partakes in outside of skiing hours, from slackline to trampolining. It has inspired us to uphold our mission to support local businesses and athletes. The message from both athletes and enable is clear: don’t give up, better preparation means better performance.
